Out for a walk

Posted on

We took a walk yesterday in the Douglas Family Preserve. ¬†It was a beautiful day and windy enough for some hang gliders. Mason had a great time seeing all of the dogs, walking through the tall grass, collecting rocks, and as you’ll see rolling in the dirt. Is he a puppy or a little boy?

Over the last couple weeks Elaine and I have been noticing that Mason’s hair was not only getting long, but it was beginning to resemble one of two things- a mullet or a mohawk that was never spiked. His hair was extra long in back, short on the sides, and his bangs were in his eyes. It was not the style of our choice, but it was his hair and it was near perfect.

Elaine and I would talk, “Yeah, we should probably cut his hair.” …more time would pass, “Are you ready to do this?” …more time would pass. Finally after about a month of stalling it was time that he (and we) were ready to cut it.

Once the decision was made Elaine and I moved quickly so we couldn’t turn back. Together we watched a a couple 4 minute videos on YouTube based off of our search, “How to cut your toddler’s hair”. (quick aside- YouTube can give you get Do It Yourself videos, but trust me there are none on this topic)¬†Elaine grabbed Mason and our scissors and the following conversation took place.

Elaine: Do you know what you’re doing?
Mark: The videos weren’t helpful at all. But I can figure it out, I’ve been getting my haircut for 30-some years.
Elaine: (nervous face)
Mark: (hidden nervous face)

We popped Mason into his highchair, put a bib around him to catch some hair, and gave him 3 of his favorite things his pacifier, some blueberries, and he got to watch videos of him growing up on Elaine’s iPad. With everything in place, the snipping began. Here are some photos of the process and end results…

No one was injured in the process but the haircut was far more emotional than difficult. In a matter of 10 minutes and a few snips Mason went from a baby to a little boy. We kept a few golden locks to remember the transformation. Amazing

Here is a photo from the next day of his new do…
