A quick recap of day two in photos…

Photo Shoot

Here is a quick slideshow of some photos of Mason and me. Not all of the shots are frame worthy, but fun none the less!  Most of them are from a quiet previous Sunday and the last two are from a Holiday party from last night.

A Day in the Life of an Almost One Year Old

Posted on

Back in April Elaine and I had an idea of taking a photo of Mason every hour of during his day and posting it to the blog.  It was fun project and we decided to make it a tradition and continue it on a six months basis.

Crazy enough, it’s that time again and here are the photos from our day, Sunday, September 30th.

Our day of an almost 1 year old started at 7:45am and was filled with playtime, walks, meeting Elaine for lunch, naps, eating, and periods of shuffling feet. It ended a little early at 6:45pm and hopefully is filled with sweet dreams.

Incase you missed the six month blog post or want to compare the two here is  the link. I suggest that you check it out… it is unbelievable to see how big and independent he has gotten in only six months.

Wake up at 7:45am and time to play

Breakfast time 8:45am (oatmeal, grapes, water, & cereal puffs)

Playing with Ruby and practicing walking at 9:45am

Nap Time! 10:45am

One of many diaper changes of the day (11:45am)

Lots of books to read today 12:45pm

Meeting Mom during her lunch break! 1:45pm

Back home for a nap at 2:45pm. Unfortunately Mason never fell asleep but he did rest and play in his crib for about 45 minutes. Nice to have a little break and watch a little football

Mason and I started a walk up on the Mesa along Shoreline (3:45pm)

Still out on our walk but taking a peek-a-boo break in the grass on SBCC campus (4:45pm)

6:45pm & Mason had just fallen asleep. I think we were both worn out from a busy day

Books, books, books

Posted on

A few weeks ago we rearranged one of our shelves in our living room to house all of Mason’s books. Since then he has loved to crawl over to the bookshelf and grab his books. Sometimes he will sit quietly with each one- sometimes chewing them and sometimes flipping the pages. But most often he will select a book and hold it above his head and make a “ugh?” noise. We’ve learned that this is his polite request coo and he wants a book read to him. Most of the time we catch the hint and when we sit with him on the floor his eyes light up and he smiles from ear to ear.

Does he sit through the whole book? Nope. Does he close it midway through and hand us another book? Yes. It is fun? Of course

Although Mason has an entire shelf of books, he commonly only requests to be read a few. They are, in no particular order:

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See
Happy Baby: Puppy & Friends
Children of Wonder Series
In My Nest
& a Photo book that has our photos in it

Even though the books can be a little repetitive, it’s been fun to introduce them into Mason’s life. We both could probably read Brown Bear in our sleep…in fact Elaine and I were quizzing each about the order of the animals and both scored 100%.   As he grows, I know that I’m excited to go to used book stores, pick out fun books and read more with him.

I’ve tried to capture the book request process in the following photos. Enjoy!

Photo Booth Fun

This morning we had fun with the Photo Booth program on a Mac that I am trying out. Thought I’d share a few of the photos from our experiment. Some of the photos look a little creepy but we had a good time and learned how photogenic we really are 🙂

Four Regular Shots

Couch Walking & Playground!

Posted on

Hi everyone- wanted to give you a quick update on life and a few photos.

Mason has been crawling now for almost two months and has become a pro. He goes from room to room, follows Ruby for fun, and scoots around until he can crawl no more and has to lay down. His floor snuggles are very cute but it doesn’t compare to his tired cuddles or random nuzzles. I bring the crawling up because he is getting more and more comfortable with his couch walking and wall moving. It won’t be long until it will be no-hands movement. Crazy!

Today we met our friends Chris, Kelly & River down in Carpinteria for some over-priced pizza and playground fun. There is a really nice kids park near the beach with slides, statues, and the bouncy foam-floor. Mason went on his first assisted slide today and then went on it a few more times as we held his hands. We also got to check out a little book store in town with a fun train set. Here are some more photos.

Four Months Update

Posted on

Happy 4 months Mason! It is really crazy how quickly the weeks and now months have flown. Elaine does a great job giving the recent monthly changes but here is my attempt at a few moments of the last few weeks:

Teething sucks. We suspected it a few weeks ago based on the drool, constant items in his mouth, and quick change in his sleeping pattern. It was helpful to get doctor confirmation but even being first time parents the diagnosis was pretty clear. The pain seems to come and go in waves, but usually seems to get more intense at night. Nothing has broken through his gums yet, but we inspect his gums on a regular basis to see if there is a change.

Eczema on top of teething sucks even worse. What started off as a small patch of dry skin seemed to consume most of his body overnight. We have it pretty under control at the moment, but there were a few days that we both had “what do we do?” looks on our face. We now have a little routine of oil, lotion, neosporin, and band-aid. We get to do this a couple times a day and the poor kid gets bathed in it about 3 times a day. He gets pretty slippery but smells pretty nice.

Good-bye bassinet! During this month we packed up the bassinet and have successfully transitioned to a crib in our second room. There were some touchy times at first, but overall it has been a smooth for Mason and Elaine and myself. Funny thing is that even with such a big sleeping space somehow he always ends up smashed up against the edge every night.

Outside and inside the crib Mason is practicing balance by sitting up on his own and wiggles around his back to move one inch at a time. I know it is one small step, but we no longer have a stationary baby! The latest fun game is going from laying on his back to standing. By just grabbing his hands Mason does a pretty solid job of getting to his feet.

This month also gave Mason his first taste of water. I never saw him have a drink but I guess he had a couple small sips over the course of the month. It also gave him his first super small taste of solid food. Elaine shared with me this morning that she presented the smallest flake of flat bread to Mason the other morning and his tongue quickly darted out to snag it. We had been presenting our food to him for the past few weeks and we always got a blank stare. As the flat bread test proved, we can no longer offer him things unless we want him to eat it! This next chapter will be a lot of fun.

We will be away this next week in beautiful Hawaii and I’m not sure how much blogging either Elaine or I will be doing..but you never know. We are looking forward to spending some time with my parents, watching sunsets, and kicking it at the beach. One thing that can’t come soon enough is time with Elaine and Mason that doesn’t involve work, big projects, or apartment therapy.

On a side note, THANK YOU for making January our biggest month yet. During the month we had over 800 visits and topped our old record of 700. Pretty cool if you ask me.
Aloha for now!
