Dinner Peek-a-Boo

Posted on

Just after dinner I caught this video and thought this would be a good place to share it…

As you can see, Mason and Caleb are doing a great job of playing together. Yes, they have their moments, but they light up whenever they see each other. It’s really sweet and here you get to see some of their spontaneous play.

Elephants Outside Our Window

Over the past few weeks Mason’s imagination has blossomed. He is cooking pretend food, making a farm out of his blocks, and lately he has seen elephants outside our dining room window. It’s been a lot of fun playing with him but the elephants have cracked us up. The other night during dinner he repeatedly requested that I open our curtains to look at the elephants. In case you’ve never been to our house if you look out this window you’ll see railroad tracks, a busy freeway, palm trees, but no elephants.

This dinner must have been different because Mason was convinced that there were four, yes four elephants right outside and I needed to look for them. As I approached the closed curtains he could barely contain his excitement and began laughing uncontrollably.  I repeatedly would open the curtain, act surprised, and close the curtains. I’d bet that this continued for about 10 minutes. Elaine got a video of the game and it is full of belly busting laughs.

The backstory is important for understanding this video entry. You see this morning Mason was at the window and he was looking for elephants outside. I caught the tail end of his play, but was able to catch him counting, quickly opening the curtains, and his excitement of seeing the elephants. As a warning the video starts off pretty soft but the volume definitely picks up towards the end.

Real quick- Yesterday Mason was counting with Elaine and made it up to 10 without hesitation. He does it a couple of times in the video if you listen for it.

Enjoy and happy elephant searching!

A Lot Can Change In A Year

Posted on

If a photograph says a thousand words, what does a video say?

I’ve been looking through some old photos and videos and thought it would be fun to show two videos from exactly one year a part. Its turned out to be a fun little project with some pretty significant developmental skills being displayed. What you’ll see is that a lot can change in a year, especially that first year.

So here it is… the first video was shot on November 18th, 2011 and it captures the developing skill of tummy time and as you’ll see it is somewhat successful and then Mason slowly falls to the left. Even though he has changed so much, I remember taking this one like it was only yesterday.

Our latest video was filmed on November 18th, 2012 and features Mason’s love of food, his immediate frustration of not getting the carrot on his fork, and the pure joy of eating (almost) without assistance. As all successes should be marked, this video ends with a couple of high fives and smiles.

My favorite moments in that video are at 17 seconds and 30 Mason is a very expressive kid (see above video at 17, 30, and 53 seconds) and this next one shows more of those qualities. You’ll see that he’s recently figured out how to manipulate his eyebrows to give them most dramatic expressions. It starts out with his “Oooooo” face from our choo-choo train conversation and then he decides to try to climb into his little chair without help. He figures it out and you’ll get to see his excitement of being a ‘rockin baby’. He’s a cool kid.
